F P L, also known as 林文进, is a civil engineering student from Indonesia. He had an amazing time during his college classes, and it is no wonder that he received numerous awards, to name a few: 2017 Zhejiang Province Government Scholarship, 2018 Chinese Government Scholarship, 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship, 2020 Outstanding Graduate Student.

Life

1. Do you like China? What are the reasons and motivations that made you want to study in China?

China is a Country that I love very much. The food, the culture, the people and all the beautiful touristic sites all over the country I will really miss those 黄焖鸡 and 麻辣香锅. The reason that made me decided to study in China is because I believe construction development in China is really fast. I thought it will help me to look in at construction in a different view.

2. As a new foreigner in China, did you get used to your new life easily? what are the challenges you faced when just arrived and how resolve them?

Even though the beginning was challenging, coming to china has been a great experience. As a new foreigner in China, the main challenge that I faced was the language barrier because I did not understand Chinese at all. I was just asking help from my older Indonesian friend in Hangzhou to translate anything. In my country, I had someone who helped me for the application process in ZJUT. It was quite a struggle for me at first. I resolved all of these problems by learning. I learnt something new every day and I wrote it down in my phone and small notes with pen that I brought everywhere I go. During my last year in China, I finally became a person that could do my things on my own.

3. Did you try some extracurricular activities such as volunteering? What do you think of these activities? Interesting?

One thing I really enjoyed in my time at ZJUT was joining extracurricular activities. It was a very good experience; it gave me a lot of abilities and trough that I developed a lot of personal skills. I even had the privilege to visit some Chinese   big companies   and the opportunity to perform a rap song for Zhejiang Dream Trip 2017. I hope it will become more interesting each year.

1. Congratulations for your very good results in the specialized courses of your major. Why did you choose that major?

Thank you! I chose this major because I’ve always been interested in constructions projects and also because I believe that by understanding and mastering civil engineering, I will be able to contribute to the development of my country in the construction domain by taking China as a model , with cities like Shanghai ,Shenzhen or Beijing and their amazing buildings.

2. Do you have any particular learning methods? Can you share it with us?

No, I do not have that. Each year I've always joined organizations or activities to not only enhance education part, but also my inner-self.

3. Which courses do you think are particularly important or particularly useful in your studies field?

For Civil engineering ,all courses are important because you cannot leave any little detail knowledge when you want to build something. However, I think among 4 years of my experience in ZJUT, having Chinese language course was very important! You cannot live easily somewhere without understanding language, knowing the art, culture and the way of living of the local people.

To the freshmen:
